Azores Wine Company Verdelho Original is a single-variety Verdelho white wine produced by the Azores Wine Company winery in the IG Azores in Las Azores, Portugal.
To make the Azores Wine Company Verdelho Original wine, the grape bunches are selected and manually harvested in 20 kg baskets. When they reach the winery they are pressed whole and then 24 hours later they are transferred to fermentation vats with a capacity of 600 to 1000 litres.
The name, Verdelho Original, comes from the fact that the Godello, Verdelho and Verdejo varieties have many similarities and are forever being confused for one another by consumers when they are actually three completely different grapes. So the Azores Wine Company winery wanted to explain the origin and characteristics of this wine, the Verdelho-Verdelho original.
The Azores Wine Company is a young winery that was set up in 2014 by António Maçanita, Filipe Rocha and Paulo Machado, three friends with strong ties to the Azores who share a passion for wine and gastronomy. Their aim is to allow people to experience “their land and sea” through a glass of wine and they have definitely managed this! They grow vines in practically impossible areas with volcanic soils where the landscape and the Atlantic ocean have had a real influence on them. These are unique, fresh and challenging wines with their own identity and that essential touch of salt.
