About Benoit Courault Guinechiens

Benoit Courault was not merely a sommelier; he was an enthusiast who, after years of delving into the history of Bordeaux's illustrious wines and serving glasses that didn't always stir his emotions, decided to radically alter his life's course. "I was a bit weary of serving wine, so I decided to make it," he recalls, encapsulating the beginning of his journey as a creator with those words.

He commenced his formal training at the wine school in Beaune, interned at wineries in Chambolle-Musigny, and later trained under Eric Pfifferling at Domaine de l’Anglore in Tavel, where he discovered a more genuine and artisanal approach to winemaking. In 2005, Benoit acquired a small estate in Maine-et-Loire and settled there with his wife, poised to craft wines on his own terms.

From this decision emerged Benoit Courault Guinechiens, his most iconic wine. Crafted from old chenin vines on schist soil, with whole cluster direct pressing, spontaneous fermentation, and a year of ageing on lees without stirring in old 600-litre barrels, this wine mirrors Benoit's philosophy: minimal intervention, maximum expression. Without fining or filtration, each sip conveys authenticity, character, and the spirit of the creator who one day grew tired of serving and resolved to make.

With an elegant and profound profile, Benoit Courault Guinechiens embodies a simple yet powerful notion: when you have passion, merely serving wine is never enough; you must create it.
