Birichino Bechthold Vineyard Cinsault Old Vines is an organic red wine made by Birichino with the Cinsault variety in the Santa Cruz Mountains, California (USA).

Birichino, which means mischievous in Italian, is the name given to Alex Krause and John Locke’s new project. These are two expert winemakers who, after working in different regions in California, Italy and France, fell in love with the hundred-year-old vineyards with a sea influence in the Santa Cruz mountains. As a result, they produce great wines through minimal intervention and maximum dedication.

Birichino Bechthold Vineyard Cinsault Old Vines comes from vines planted in 1886 and this is considered to be the oldestCinsault in the world. These are hundred-year-old vines planted in soils rich in granite minerals. They are cultivated using ecological agriculture with organic treatments, and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness.

In the winery, Birichino Bechthold Vineyard Cinsault Old Vines is made through spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged for 10 months in used French oak barrels. Clarification and filtration are kept to a minimum.
