Corpinnat: the bubbles born from the heart of Penedès

In times of toasts, celebrations, and sparkling wines, there is a name that increasingly resonates among those seeking more than just bubbles in their glass: Corpinnat.

In times of toasts, celebrations, and sparkling wines, there is a name that increasingly resonates among those seeking more than just bubbles in their glass: Corpinnat. It may be challenging to remember at first, but once you grasp its meaning, it becomes unforgettable.

“Cor” (heart, in Catalan) + “Pinnat” (root of the toponym Penedès, in Latin).

It's that simple. It's that powerful: Corpinnat signifies “the heart of Penedès.” And this is not merely a play on words, but a profound declaration of intent. This European collective brand was born from the desire to highlight the great sparkling wines crafted at the heart of Penedès, a region spanning 997 km² that encompasses, wholly or partially, the counties of Alt Penedès, Alt Camp, Baix Penedès, Baix Llobregat, and Anoia, all with a deep agricultural vocation and an identity closely tied to the vineyard.

Because no, this is not a group of rebellious wineries that one day decided to stray from the path. These are wineries that no longer identified with a designation that had ceased to reflect either their origin or their way of working. Until 2018, they were all part of the D.O. Cava. But... what is the point of discussing “origin” when only the production method is regulated?

Why call it origin when it merely means method?

The D.O. Cava is the only one in Spain that groups wineries solely by the production method (méthode champenoise or traditional method), without considering the actual territory from which the grapes originate. Thus, today you can find cavas in Extremadura, Valencia, Rioja, the Basque Country, or Catalonia. And in a world where terroir — the landscape, the soil, the climate, and the people — matters more than ever, a group of vintners decided to return to the true origin; the one that begins in the vineyard and ends in the glass. Thus, Corpinnat was born, a bold project that not only protects the Penedès region but also proposes an exemplary way of making wine with commitment, transparency, and roots.

Corpinnat: more than a place, a philosophy

Corpinnat is more than a name. It is a rigorous, honest philosophy deeply committed to quality, the land, and the people who cultivate it. To join this club, it is not enough to desire it; one must prove it.

The 7 Corpinnat commitments:

1- Historical varieties of Penedès such as xarel·lo, macabeu, parellada, or malvasía.

2- Certified organic vineyards, with sustainable practices.

3- A minimum of estate-owned vineyards managed by the winery.

4- 100% manual harvesting, caring for each cluster.

5- Complete vinification on the estate, without external base wines.

6- Extended bottle aging: minimum 18 months, with at least one wine aged 30 months and another 60 months on the market.

7- Fair and stable relationship with grape growers, with long-term contracts and guaranteed minimum prices.

Today, 15 wineries committed to this vision are part of Corpinnat: Gramona, Llopart, Recaredo, Nadal, Sabaté i Coca, Torelló, Huguet de Can Feixes, Júlia Bernet, Mas Candí, Can Descregut, Pardas, Celler Bufadors, Cisteller Viader and Mas de la Basserola.

With 1,235 hectares of cultivated vineyards, 2.28 million bottles sold, and a turnover of 26.42 million euros in the past year, these wineries uphold a clear idea: the finest sparkling wine is not only crafted in the winery but is cultivated in the vineyard, with time, patience, and deliberate choices.

Opening Corpinnat to the world

Today, Corpinnat is already exported to sixty countries. But beyond the figures, the essential aspect is to convey this way of understanding wine from within. That the public can see, touch, taste, and experience everything behind each bottle.

Therefore, Corpinnat organizes various events throughout the year to connect with consumers, from the Harvest Festival, where the first data and emotions of the harvest are shared, to the Base Wine Tasting, a fascinating experience that allows one to understand the DNA of each vintage before it transforms into sparkling wine. And, as the highlight, the Gastronomic Festival, a summer event that unites territory, cuisine, and bubbles.

The Gastronomic Festival: when terroir is served in glass and plate

This year, the Corpinnat Gastronomic Festival takes place from June 12 to July 31, with 42 unique dinners in emblematic spaces of their wineries. Dinners paired with renowned chefs and long-aged sparkling wines, designed to awaken the five senses.

But it goes far beyond a dinner. As Pere Llopart, president of Corpinnat, states:

“Those who have experienced it know. It is an immersion in the territory, in good taste, and in our values.”

And therein lies the key: Corpinnat does not seek to be exclusive, but inclusive. To demonstrate that what makes Corpinnat unique — its passion for authenticity — is also what makes it enjoyable for everyone. Because these bubbles are not only born from the heart of Penedès. They arise from a profound desire to do things right. And that, when it reaches the glass... is noticeable. And celebrated.
