Marqués de Riscal, a treasure within Rioja red wines

Last Friday, at Decántalo we had the opportunity of tasting a great Rioja wine, Marqués de Riscal 150 Aniversario, which turned out to be a real treasure of La Rioja.

The first thing that surprised us was that despite being a Gran Reserva from 2001, this wine is still powerful and very lively. And has still a long live ahead!

It has a nice colour with subtle orangey edges. In the nose, it is complex and shows elegant notes of ripe fruit which stays in the background, behind the noble wooden aromas, the hints of leather and the nice spices. We were surprised by its candle wax aromas. In the mouth, it seduced us. It is intense and highly silky, with an extraordinary acidity and very nice but still noticeable tannins. Its finish is very long and shows a great persistence.

What a nice way to commemorate an anniversary in the oldest winery in Spain, Marqués de Riscal.
