Spring: the awakening of the vineyard
After winter, the vines gradually awaken: the sap begins to flow again, and tiny droplets emerge from the pruning cuts, heralding the return of life.
Spring possesses a magical power: it awakens the dormant and breathes life into the landscapes. In the vineyard, this awakening is almost ritualistic. The first drops of sap emerge, known as "the weeping," a small daily miracle heralding the start of its vegetative cycle.
Between late March and early April, the first green shoots timidly appear among the branches, like fingers reaching for the sun. Gradually, they transform into leaves that capture the light, infusing the vine with energy.
April transforms the vineyard: the buds from which the flowers will emerge begin to take shape, small promises that will one day become juicy clusters. Each emerging leaf, each opening shoot, is an act of patience and care. Spring is delicate, a period of heightened attention requiring protection against unexpected frosts, persistent rains, insects, and pests. Nutrition, green pruning, and cover crop management are crucial for balanced development.
May brings with it the flowering, a fragile and decisive moment. The small white flowers of the vineyard, delicate and perfect, hold within them the promise of future grapes. Spring is a vulnerable time: tomorrow's clusters depend on this dance of nature. The vintners observe, prune, and adjust with care, as if assisting the vine in writing the first chapter of the upcoming harvest. Each intervention, each meticulous observation, has a direct impact on the quality of the wines we will enjoy months later.
Spring is the season that lays the foundation for all that is to come. Each developing shoot, each forming cluster, contains the story that we will later recount sip by sip. As the vineyard awakens and stretches towards the sun, we can envision the aromatic, complex, and characterful wines that will one day make us toast, move us, and fill our warm days, autumn... life itself with memories.
