Unveiling Roc Gramona, the young man revolutionising Penedès
When discussing the sixth generation of the Gramona family, it is impossible not to mention Roc Gramona. Despite his youth, Roc has embraced the challenge of continuing the family legacy with infectious energy. Alongside his cousin Leo, he not only keeps the winemaking tradition of Penedès alive but is also reinventing it. Every project he is involved in (Gramona, Enclós de Peralba, the Pruning School, Corpinnat, and Vida Penedès) bears his personal imprint, always innovative yet deeply respectful of the land and tradition.
Gramona: A Legacy in Evolution
Inheriting a winery as iconic as Gramona is no small feat. However, Roc, with his fresh and bold vision, has taken the helm with a single objective: to continue the legacy of one of the most prestigious wineries in Penedès without losing its essence. While the challenge of maintaining quality, meticulous aging, and respect for the terroir is fundamental, Roc is also clear about his commitment to the future.
On his horizon is an ambitious goal for 2035: to work exclusively with native varieties. This decision, the result of deep reflection with the previous generation, seeks to restore Penedès to its most authentic character, enhancing the sparkling wines with the true identity of the region. And, of course, all this goes hand in hand with the Corpinnat brand, which he passionately promotes to ensure sparkling wines of unique quality.
Corpinnat: The Quality Sparkling Wine Seal of Penedès
Corpinnat is not just a label; it is a declaration of principles. It was born with the aim of establishing a quality standard that protects the sparkling wines of Penedès, and today it has become an international benchmark. Under Roc's strategic vision, Corpinnat signifies not only quality but also a rigorous approach that sets a very high bar for wineries wishing to be part of this select group.
However, this collective is not exclusive but is open to all wineries that meet its stringent criteria. And although the integration process is slow, the impact of Corpinnat has continued to grow since its inception in 2018, establishing itself as a symbol of the values and identity of Penedès.
Enclós de Peralba: A Dream Realised
Roc is not content with merely following in the family's footsteps, and before making the leap into the family business, alongside Leo, he decided to create his own project: Enclós de Peralba. The name, as it could not be otherwise, reflects a deep connection with the land: Enclós (a "clos" in Catalan, a closed estate or vineyard) and Peralba (the white stone from the high part of Sant Sadurní).
This project has a clear mission: to revive the spirit of the great wines of Penedès, those that existed before the cava boom. And they are succeeding. Enclós de Peralba stands out for its work philosophy based on three fundamental pillars: sustainable viticulture, native varieties, and careful production. The recognition from Tim Atkin, Master of Wine, naming Roc "Best Young Winemaker," has been merely a confirmation of the exceptional work Roc and Leo are undertaking.

Pruning School: The Art of Vineyard Care
One of the defining characteristics of Roc is his deep commitment to the vineyard. Viticulture is not just about making wine but about caring for the land and the vines that produce it. Therefore, when the Gramona family saw that their vines, which historically could live up to 100 years, began to die at 20 or 30, they were compelled to seek solutions.
Following the teachings of Marco Simonit, a great expert in respectful pruning, Roc has specialized in a technique that respects the oldest vines and cares for them as if they were his own treasure. This training led him to be part of the first Pruning School in Spain, where he now shares his knowledge with wineries across the peninsula. An effort that not only improves the quality of the wines but ensures that future generations can continue to cultivate healthy and long-lived vines.
Vida Penedès: A Young Generation Changing the Rules
And as if that were not enough, Roc is also a key part of Vida Penedès, a group that brings together more than 30 wineries of young winemakers, most between 20 and 35 years old. It is a collective that is not only committed to preserving the viticultural heritage of the region but also to redefining the future of Penedès.
The objective of Vida Penedès is clear: to live from viticulture in a dignified manner, without following the conventional paths of the major denominations of origin. By betting on local varieties, minimal interventions, and the revival of traditional techniques, this group of young winemakers is charting the course towards a more autonomous, sustainable, and value-aligned viticultural model with Penedès.
With all this, if something characterizes Roc Gramona, it is his insatiable thirst for learning and innovation. He knows that to move forward in the world of wine, one must take risks, experiment, and question what is already established, without ever losing sight of the roots his family has passed down to him. With Roc at the helm, the future of Gramona is in good hands, and so is that of Penedès.
