About Castaño Colección Cepas Viejas

Castaño Colección Cepas Viejas is a red wine from the D.O. Yecla produced by the Castaño winery. This wine is a blend of two different grape varieties, Monastrell (70%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%).

The region is home to a Mediterranean Continental climate, characterised by dry summers and cold winters where snowfall may appear. The grapes used to make this wine come from vineyards located 750 metres above sea level, with the Monastrell grapes cultivated by short pruning, while the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grow on trellises. Both the Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties are grow on old vines, at around 50 and 30 years respectively.

After the harvest has been carried out, Castaño Colección Cepas Viejas undergoes alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature between 26º and 28ºC. Following this, malolactic fermentation takes place. Castaño Colección Cepas Viejas then finally ages for 10 months in oak barrels. This wine is bottled and placed onto the market without being stabilised.

The Castaño winery is home to over 500 metres of vineyards spread across four different ploys: Las Gruesas, Pozuelo, Arabi and El Espinal. The winery was founded by Ramón Castaño Santa and is now led by his three children, who joined the project back in the 80s.

2013 Velvety and full-bodied, with refined tannic structure. The finish is extensive and persistent.

Dark and luminous cherry hue.

Intricate black fruit aromas intertwined with spiced undertones. Nuances derived from barrel aging.
