About Château Pesquié Quintessence Rosé
In ancient times, alchemists were not solely in pursuit of gold. Within their cauldrons and manuscripts, they yearned to distill the quintessence —quinta essentia, in Latin—, that enigmatic fifth element that emerged after refining the four classical elements: earth, water, air, and fire. It was not a tangible substance, but the pure essence of matter, the most refined remnant left after everything else had been stripped away. A fascinating, almost mystical concept.
In the realm of wine, few notions align as aptly as this when discussing Quintessence Rosé from Château Pesquié, nestled in the heart of Ventoux (Rhône). Here, quintessence is not merely a symbol; it is the culmination of decades of dedication, vision, and intergenerational family endeavour.
It all began in 1973 when Odette and René Bastide decided to invest in a land rich in character. At that time, Ventoux was yet to be recognised in the wine world, but they already perceived its potential. Over the years, their daughter Edith and her husband Paul, both doctors by profession, left their careers behind to immerse themselves in the family business. Thus, a project was born, vibrant and ever-evolving.
In 1990, the first independent vinification took place, a milestone that led to Château Pesquié Quintessence, a wine conceived to embody the best of its terroir, climate, and the people who produce it. Today, it is Alexandre and Frédéric Chaudière, the sons of Edith and Paul, who continue the tradition, capturing the spirit of Ventoux in every bottle.
Château Pesquié Quintessence Rosé is the fruition of this legacy. Created through the collaboration of Olivier Poussier (World's Best Sommelier 2000), the oenologist Emmanuel Gagnepain, and the Chaudière brothers, this rosé is crafted from a blend of mourvèdre, cinsault, and clairette, grown on clay-limestone soils with calcareous pebbles, at an altitude of 300 metres. Each variety is vinified separately, and the wine is aged for a year in concrete eggs and 600-litre demi-muids, imparting a unique freshness, structure, and complexity.
With a highly gastronomic profile and a remarkable ageing potential, Château Pesquié Quintessence Rosé is a genuine expression of the best Ventoux has to offer. It is a tribute to the land and to a family who, generation after generation, has dedicated their lives to seeking the purest and truest essence in every glass.

| 2023 | Château Pesquié Quintessence Rosé 2023 captivates with its vibrant deep coral pink hue. Upon bringing it to the nose, a burst of ripe fruits is unleashed, particularly strawberries and raspberries, intertwined with notes of pepper and subtle floral hints. The mouthfeel is refreshing and sophisticated, with a delightful balance between the red fruit flavours and a delicate spicy touch. What stands out especially is the subtle bitterness that prolongs the wine's pleasure on the palate. Recommended for its balanced combination of freshness and complexity, making it an excellent choice for those seeking an extraordinary rosé. |
