About Château Pibarnon Bandol Nuances Rosé
Discovering a refreshing, light, and easy-to-drink rosé is a simple task. Yet, encountering an aged rosé with body and character is a more challenging endeavor. If you fancy such a wine (or if you have never tried one and are eager to venture), you have arrived at the right place. We recommend the Château Pibarnon Bandol Nuances Rosé.
Writing about Château Pibarnon is tantamount to speaking of quality and excellence. There is little else to say about this Provençal winery, located in the A.O.C. Bandol (in the southeast of France), whose wines have gradually earned the renown they deserve. Their wines have even graced the glasses of European heads of state at a summit organized in the year 2000 by Jacques Chirac (then President of the French Republic). Complacency and docility are not traits compatible with this enterprise, founded in 1977 by the mason Henri de Saint-Victor. For this reason, at Château Pibarnon, they embrace new challenges, such as the creation of Château Pibarnon Bandol Nuances Rosé. Until now, it was common to find young rosés, with minimal aging, which after several months were released to the market in August. However, the concept of crafting a Grand Rosé, to be released in the second spring and to remain in the cellar for at least a year and a half, began to take shape at Château Pibarnon. The idea was well-received, and the challenge was set.
To ensure this rosé wine could withstand the necessary aging, it was essential to find a suitable variety with body, capable of enduring extended barrel aging. And this grape was undoubtedly the mourvèdre. These clusters were grown on limestone terraces at over 300 meters above sea level, within a microclimate boasting marvelous cool nights and sunny, warm days. Since 2016, all these vineyards have been cultivated biodynamically, with the invaluable assistance of a horse (responsible for plowing), manual labor, and very low yields.
When we say that Château Pibarnon Bandol Nuances Rosé is a Grand Rosé, we are not only referring to the terroir; we are also alluding to its vinification and maturation. The harvest is carried out manually, at night, with utmost care for the vineyard's condition. Fermentation occurs spontaneously, with indigenous yeasts and at a low temperature (to extract all possible aromas). Last but not least, the touch that will make Château Pibarnon Bandol Nuances Rosé stand out: the minimum one year it will spend in French oak barrels, resting and developing its full character.
We caution you: this is only suitable for the most discerning palates. And a word to the wise is sufficient.
| 2018 | Château Pibarnon Bandol Nuances Rosé 2018 is an exceptionally distinctive rosé. It is one of those wines that will indubitably leave an indelible impression. Its concentration and elegance render it incomparable. Initially, it presents a robust, reddish hue that sets it apart as singular. The bouquet is refined, intensely aromatic, with nuances of red berries, morello cherries, redcurrants, citrus, grass, and mint. On the palate, it is graceful and subtle, yet comprehensive and enveloping. Delightfully flavorful. It presents an intriguing potential for aging. |
