Clos Baltasar is a red wine crafted by Bodegas San Alejandro, located in Miedes de Aragón (Zaragoza), within the esteemed D.O. Calatayud region.
Bodegas San Alejandro was established in 1962 in Miedes de Aragón (Zaragoza), named in tribute to Saint Alexander, whose remains lie in the 17th-century Franciscan Monastery adorned in Mudejar style in Miedes.
This venture, which began with the passion and dedication of a group of vine-growers, has now become a benchmark in the region for the production and marketing of premium wines, renowned for their meticulous approach to both vineyard management and winemaking. Their commitment is to sustain and enhance the standard of living for members and employees, thereby invigorating the rural economy and ensuring employment opportunities for future generations.
Thanks to its members, Bodegas San Alejandro boasts an extensive array of vineyards, most of which are of significant age, situated at altitudes ranging from 700 to 1100 meters. The terroir is characterized by black and red slate soils, stony terrain, and clays—a diverse palette of landscapes that yields the finest grapes for each wine variety.
Clos Baltasar is a red wine produced using Garnacha Tinta grapes from venerable vineyards, complemented by a minor proportion of other varietals such as Miguel de Arco, Bobal, and Moristel. The plots were meticulously selected after an extensive 15-year process of choosing the finest mountain vineyards.
After the selective hand-picking of grapes in the vineyards, they are transported to the winery for maceration with the skins in concrete tanks, where fermentation will also take place. This material is also a component in the aging process, where Clos Baltasar will harmonize concrete with wood. A delight that is truly not to be missed!
