About Diego Magaña Anza

Diego Magaña Anza is a signature red wine made in La Rioja Alavesa, one of the three areas of the D.O.Ca. Rioja. This region lies south of Álava, in the Basque Country (Spain), between the Ebro river and the Toloño mountain range.

An exceptional land with the best vineyards and small winegrowers, La Rioja Alavesa offers endless possibilities, but none of them can be compared to Diego Magaña Anza, a wine that was made through Diego Magaña’s adventure in 2016 and that now involves 4.5 hectares between the villages of Laguardia, Elvillar and Cripán.

These vines, which are between 30 and 90 years old, are mainly Tempranillo, but there are also other varieties like Garnacha, Graciano, Mazuelo, Viura and Malvasía Riojana. The winemaker, who was trained by Raúl Pérez, cultivates these vines without using any herbicides, he harvests manually and the oldest vines are worked with the help of a horse. Once the Diego Magaña Anza grapes reach the winery, they ferment spontaneously and spend 12 months aging in used barrels.

Two years ago Diego Magañana was named by the Decanter magazine as one of the 10 winemakers who are changing the wine landscape in Spain. His Diego Magaña Anza wine is the best way to get to know his innovative work. Don’t miss out.
