Eight generations encompass a great deal, and if anyone comprehends this, it is the Morin family. The tale commences in 1704, when the great-great-grandfather of André-Jean, Etienne Morin, was already cultivating vineyards. However, since then, over the centuries, the family has endured wars, losses, and reconstructions. So much so that even André-Jean's grandfather had to part with the family vineyards, and it was his father, Michel, who, with patience and dedication, reclaimed each plot, restoring life and continuity to the domaine from the sole remaining vineyard, “La Touraize,” from which the project's name is derived.
In 1985, André-Jean joined his father and began expanding the vineyard to its current 12 hectares. A pivotal moment when he decided to cease delivering grapes to the local cooperative and took the reins of vinification himself. Since then, the wines of Domaine de La Touraize have been distinguished by their freshness and elegance, but above all, for authentically reflecting the terroir from which they originated.
Arbois Ploussard La Cabane serves as a perfect embodiment of this philosophy. Originating from 1.5 hectares of 30-year-old vines planted on blue marl, this natural and expressive ploussard adheres to a minimal intervention approach: manual destemming, spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts for 10 days, without pump-overs, merely moistening the cap. The fermentation concludes in wooden vats, and the wine is aged for 7 months in 20 hl barrels, concrete eggs, and vats of the same size. Ultimately, it is bottled unfiltered, unfined, and without added sulphites.
Ethereal, vibrant, and full of character, Arbois Ploussard La Cabane not only narrates the story of a region but also of a family that has dedicated centuries to perfecting the art of winemaking.
