About Domaine Lafage Nicolas

There are numerous ways to commemorate a child. Many gifts can be given, yet none can be purchased or compared to naming a red wine after them. Nicolás Lafage is the son of Jean-Marc and Eliane, a couple currently leading the Domaine Lafage. These parents dedicate a wine to their son with Domaine Lafage Nicolas, a single-varietal Garnacha cultivated from old vines.

At the foothills of the Pyrenees is where Domaine Lafage Nicolas originates, specifically in Aspres and the upper Agly valley. The schist and marble soils provide the foundation from which the over 60-year-old Garnacha vines draw the nutrients essential for their growth. Notably, Domaine Lafage stands as one of the most renowned and acclaimed wineries in this region, particularly excelling in their advanced soil management (they are true experts!). Amidst all this work, Domaine Lafage is committed to continuous improvement, exploring new techniques (such as the use of Biochar) to yield the best results and performance in a vineyard that faces the challenges of climate change daily.

Domaine Lafage Nicolas is crafted from the selection of plots with high-quality potential. For this reason, they are given special care. Harvests are conducted manually, green harvesting is performed (allowing the vine to focus on the clusters remaining on its branches), and the berries are meticulously selected on a sorting table. Domaine Lafage Nicolas is macerated and fermented at low temperatures. Only in this manner are the finest aromatic and flavour profiles achieved. Finally, Domaine Lafage Nicolas undergoes 10 months of ageing in Burgundy oak barrels.
