About Domaine Mee Godard Les Michelons AOC Moulin à Vent Tinto

Initially, it was Oregon. Subsequently, Montpellier. And now, Beaujolais has become a part of her sanctuary. Mee Godard had an epiphany during a wine tasting she attended with friends. It was the year 2013 when Godard fell in love with this southern region of the Côte d'Or, a place where its wines had yet to fully express their potential. Her resume boasted ample experience, affording her the insight to see the region's promise. Without hesitation, she acquired five hectares of vineyards in the heart of A.O.C. Morgon and an additional hectare in the neighbouring A.O.C. Moulin-à-Vent (situated further north). Here, in the lieux dit Les Michelons, the Domaine Mee Godard Les Michelons AOC Moulin à Vent Rouge was born.

In essence, Mee Godard is of the conviction that the wines of Beaujolais ought to be perceived differently. Whilst the rest of the globe reduces these reds to the widely recognized Beaujolais Nouveaux - young wines from the year released on the third Thursday of November - Godard aligns herself with a cadre of vintners who advocate for more considered, time-honoured winemaking techniques. Extended macerations, gradual fermentations, and prolonged aging are among the hallmarks of this burgeoning movement, christened Beaujolais Nouvelle Génération. The underlying purpose? Only through such methods can one truly unveil the authentic character of the terroir, yielding distinctive and extraordinary wines that diverge from industrial standards.

The Domaine Mee Godard Les Michelons AOC Moulin à Vent Rouge originates from vineyards that Godard personally tends to, by hand, adhering to biodynamic practices. On only a few occasions has Mee Godard deviated from these vines, a testament to the perfection and self-imposed rigour that this labour entails. Nevertheless, Mee Godard jests, undeterred and invigorated to persist with her manual labour, green pruning, and yield monitoring. The journey continues in the cellar where the Domaine Mee Godard Les Michelons AOC Moulin à Vent Rouge undergoes approximately 16 days of maceration. Prior to this, the grapes and clusters have been meticulously selected, aiming for the utmost quality in the most critical operation of all: fermentation. Once transformed into wine, the Domaine Mee Godard Les Michelons AOC Moulin à Vent Rouge will mature for over a year in oak barrels.

Specifically, the A.O.C. Moulin-à-Vent is among the earliest French appellations. Established in 1936, it is today one of the most intriguing and unique - not to mention rare - red wines that deserve recognition. With this in mind, no effort is spared to elevate this denomination to its rightful esteem. This is achieved through the dedication of vintners like Mee Godard and wines such as Domaine Mee Godard Les Michelons AOC Moulin à Vent Rouge. Truly an exceptional wine befitting its appellation.
