About Domaine Rolet Arbois Blanc "Nature" Savagnin Ouille

Outshone by the 5th and the 9th, Beethoven's 4th Symphony is regarded by critics as one of his great masterpieces of immense beauty. Sometimes, the popularity of certain iconic works overshadows the significant value of other pieces, which only a fortunate few get to appreciate. The same can be said for the wines of Jura, which, despite being among the oldest in France, remain, possibly, some of the least known to the majority of consumers.

One of the essential names to understand this region is Domaine Rolet. Established in 1942 by Désiré Rolet, it is today acknowledged as one of the legendary wineries of Jura. In 1958, his four children took over, dividing the roles within the domaine and elevating the winery to a new level. In just two generations, and thanks to constant and meticulous work, the family expanded from 4 hectares to 65, spread across the main appellations: Arbois, Côtes du Jura, L'Étoile, and Château Chalon.

In 2018, the Rolet offspring decided to sell the estate to three passionate families: Flambert, Dupuis, and Devillard, with the resolute aim of continuing the legacy while maintaining the precision and care that has always characterized the domaine. Their philosophy seeks a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.

The attention to the vineyard at Domaine Rolet is paramount. Currently, they practice organic farming, with profound respect for the land and a commitment to authenticity. Each variety is planted in the soil that best reflects its identity, always seeking the purest expression of the terroir and wines full of balance and elegance. Only grapes from their own plots are vinified, many of which are located on slopes that make the work more arduous, and they are always hand-harvested.

A magnificent example of this care is Domaine Rolet Arbois Blanc “Nature” Savagnin Ouille, a single-varietal savagnin produced from selected plots in Montigny-les-Arsures, on grey marl soils. Its vinification combines precision and respect: manual harvest, pneumatic pressing, static cold settling, batonnage (lees stirring), alcoholic and malolactic fermentations in barrels, and an aging of 9 months in wood. The result is an elegant, profound wine full of nuances, a true reflection of the unique character of Jura.
