Alberto Moro, deeply connected to the world of wine through family ties, always harboured a dream: to own his own winery. However, this venture could not be pursued haphazardly, as the only viable path involved utmost respect for the biodiversity of the surroundings. Ultimately, this dream came to fruition in 2018, when, alongside Ángeles Ortega, his wife, he established El Lagar de Moha.
Between the villages of Rueda and Nava del Rey, in northeastern Spain, the vineyards of this project are scattered, producing high-quality wines that blend tradition with innovation. The rest of the allure is owed to Alberto's relentless pursuit of novelty, constantly experimenting with new techniques and materials. Always starting with sauvignon blanc, verdejo, and godello—the three grape varieties he works with—the potential outcomes are limitless. For now, we can already delight in El Lagar de Moha Tiempos Modernos Godello Ecológico.
The godello grapes used in the production of this white wine grow on stony soils with a clay and limestone base, very poor in organic matter, where humidity is a constant, and the vineyard's fruits are subjected to the strong contrasts between day and night. In part, these stones help regulate excess water, preventing the future onset of fungal diseases. This significant variation positively influences the harvest, which will later transform into highly aromatic wines. In the case of El Lagar de Moha Tiempos Modernos Godello Ecológico, the process begins with manual harvesting in various stages, always seeking the optimal moment of grape ripeness. This entails giving each plot its own time, with two phases of work: one in September and another in mid-October. The grapes arrive at the winery, an old 18th-century house located in the heart of Rueda, where they are pressed and transferred to fermentation tanks, where native yeasts (found in the grape skins) will begin to work spontaneously, without any added nutrients. Finally, and no less importantly, El Lagar de Moha Tiempos Modernos Godello Ecológico will rest on its lees for a time before being bottled.
El Lagar de Moha Tiempos Modernos Godello Ecológico is a young and aromatic white wine that you won't need to worry much about when to consume. Trust us. You won't need to. You'll drink it in a single gulp in the blink of an eye.
