About El Pacto Valdechuecas

In the village of Cárdenas, right in the Alto Najerilla region, is one of the most interesting parcles that can be found in the Rioja D.O. Ca. Since 1912, several generations of the Acha family have cultivated this plot of land (barely one hectare), with conglomerate soils rich in clay and iron. Several years later, after a century had passed, El Pacto Valdechuecas was born.

Grenache, Tempranillo, Malvasía, Viura, Graciano and Mazuelo are some of the grape varieties blended in this fresh red wine, one of the most outstanding of La Rioja Alta. It would be a challenge to find a wine with greater acidity and freshness than this red, considering the fact that it has been grown in this area of the appellation, facing east, under the influence of mild temperatures throughout both winter and summer. Furthermore, the altitude, between 595 and 620 meters above sea level, favors late ripening and stable acidity levels. For the entire time that the land is being worked, El Pacto Valdechuecas will be cared for and respected to the maximum, with minimal interventions and a great deal of love and care. In fact, the grapes are harvested by hand at the beginning of October (in order to achieve the best possible ripeness).

El Pacto Valdechuecas reaches the winery and only part of the harvest is processed. The other part will go directly to a 5,000-liter concrete tank, in whole bunches, without destemming. The rest will be completed with the destemmed grapes, crushing the clusters in the lower layers, creating the must and triggering fermentation. This process is traditionally known as semi-carbonic maceration, a technique widely used both in La Riojaand in France. Once converted into wine, thanks to the work of indigenous yeasts, El Pacto Valdechuecas is completed with 12 months of aging in pre-used French oak barrels.

Pacto Valdechuecas 2020 is a juicy red wine, with an intense, dense, deep red color, very clean and bright. The nose is complex and deep, with hints of red and black berries, spices and mineral notes. It also offers very well-integrated woody and balsamic aromas. The palate is deep and tannic, very fine and persistent.
