About Ovo da Cabuxa
Do you recall the iconic scene from "Singin' in the Rain," with Gene Kelly twirling joyously in the downpour, defying the adverse weather? In Galicia, that very image comes to life amidst ancient vineyards, though instead of patent leather shoes and prop umbrellas, the protagonists don muddy boots and keep their focus firmly on the terroir.
For if anyone truly knows how to dance in the rain, it is Felicísimo Pereira Freijido. A fourth-generation member of the Freijido lineage, oenologist, winery consultant, and until recently, president of the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin, Felicísimo has dedicated his life to raising the profile of Ribeiro and safeguarding its vineyards, come rain or shine.
It was with this philosophy that Agás do Tempo was born in Cenlle, in the Avia Valley (Ourense). Felicísimo decided to pour his passion, expertise, and sweat into restoring the splendour of the land that nurtures his vines. Like his great-grandfather Jesús Freijido, who in his time offered his wines to the most distinguished figures, today El Paraguas blends family tradition with technological innovation.
Among his most exceptional creations is Ovo da Cabuxa, a wine that seems to have emerged from the very Galician rain. Centuries-old vines planted in the granitic soils of Sábrigo, tended by hand, aged in a 600-litre concrete egg on lees for 5 months, 100% treixadura, and with an unwavering commitment to sustainable viticulture, even in a climate where mildew, powdery mildew, and botrytis are constant adversaries.
Thus, under conditions that might deter anyone else, Felicísimo presents us with Ovo da Cabuxa, a wine that serves as a reminder that with joy, effort, and creativity, in Ribeiro one can craft a wine that shines like a jewel... even when the rain shows no mercy.
| 2023 | El Paraguas Ovo da Cabuxa 2023 invites you to discover its vibrant yellow-green hue, reminiscent of a burst of freshness. Its bouquet is a delight for the senses, unveiling subtle aromas of white fruits and citrus, such as green apple and lime, all with an intriguing saline and mineral undertone. Upon tasting, it reveals its character with a refreshing entry and a rich texture that envelops the palate. Its well-defined structure adds depth, while its long and broad persistence leaves a memorable impression. This wine is highly recommended for its balance between freshness, structure, and elegance, ideal for those seeking a refreshing and complex experience in every sip. |
