About Fabien Jouves Les Acacias

France is the home of Malbec and Fabien Jouves, a young winemaker who is revolutionising the wine scene and is king of the Cahors region. It all began in 2006 when he acquired the family estate located in the highest part of the denomination and founded his own winery, Mas del Périé. His aim is to showcase the diversity of soils and the ability of the Malbec variety to convey this diversity through wines made in a natural way whilst also maintaining the Burgundy character. A daring but successful project that has earned the recognition of wine gurus like Decanter, Robert Parker and Jancis Robinson.

One example of this work is Fabien Jouves Les Acacias. A single-variety Malbec from 40 year old vines planted on ferruginous limestone soils on hills at 350 meters above sea level. Like all the estate’s vineyards, this one is certified biodynamic through Demeter and organically cultivated with plant preparations and taking into account the lunar phases. Once the grapes have been manually harvested, they are vinified and aged following Burgundy methods. The wine then undergoes a 30-day extraction and ferments in concrete tanks with native yeasts. It is then aged for 18 months in 600-litre oak casks and finally bottled unfiltered and without any other interventions.

The result of this work is Fabien Jouves Les Acacias. A very personal version of the Malbec variety. A rich wine that is both super condensed and elegant. Undoubtedly one of the best ambassadors of the Cahors region.

 

2019

Fabien Jouves Les Acacias 2019 is a concentrated red wine exuding intricate aromas of ripe black fruit, floral undertones, and apple compote. On the palate, it is opulent, full-bodied, and exquisitely graceful. This medium-bodied wine boasts silky tannins and a pronounced acidity. The finish is extensive and enduring.
