Since the 16th century, the familia Pozzesi has been at the helm of this venture. Over the centuries, the majority of their output was destined for local cellars; however, in the 1960s, they fortuitously decided to take control of their business and bottle their own wine. Since then, several exquisite creations have emerged, such as Fattoria di Rodano Poggialupi Toscana.
Fattoria di Rodano Poggialupi Toscana is a red wine crafted by Fattoria di Rodano using sangiovese and merlot grapes in the region of Castellina in Chianti, at the very heart of Tuscany. This particular estate, with its medieval origins, stretches along the road that runs from the Elsa valley to this township. This route is part of the Via Francigena, a trail once frequented by ancient pilgrims journeying from Northern Europe to Rome. Here, the vineyards are positioned on hillsides, between 200 and 300 meters above sea level, specifically on the western side of the classic Chianti zone, blessed with a gentle and temperate climate. The vineyards are organically farmed and the grapes are harvested by hand. Today, Enrico Pozzesi is at the forefront of the enterprise, having embarked on this odyssey following the passing of his father, Vittorio, in 2012, who was the erstwhile president of the Consorzio Chianti Classico.
In the winery, following meticulous selection, Fattoria di Rodano Poggialupi Toscana undergoes vinification with indigenous yeasts, pump-overs, rack and returns, and macerations; indeed, both the sangiovese and merlot grapes spend 20 and 10 days, respectively, in contact with their skins before being transferred to fermentation tanks. From there, the wine will move to the aging phase, where it will mature for 8 to 12 months before it is deemed ready for release as a superb wine.
Attention! A true gem from the I.G.P. Toscana at an astonishingly modest price.
