Among the greats, it is challenging to carve out a niche, but when someone with vision recognises its potential and knows how to maximise it, then that place becomes unique. Such has been the case with the teroldego, known as the "gold of Tyrol", the indigenous variety of the Piana Rotaliana region in the Dolomites (Italy). A variety that, in the hands of Elisabetta Foradori, has been elevated to its rightful place.
Affectionately nicknamed "la signora del teroldego", Elisabetta Foradori has been a true pioneer and advocate for this variety, proving that it has the capacity to compete with Italy's great wines, such as nebbiolos, sangioveses, or aglianicos. Her tenacity and passion for the land and grape have turned her winery into a benchmark of sustainability and excellence. The winery was founded by her grandfather in the early 20th century, and her father continued the legacy. However, it was in 1984, when Elisabetta took the helm, that she transformed the course of the project with a revolutionary approach based on biodynamics and minimal intervention. Today, the winery is a true emblem, managed by her sons Theo and Emilio.
One of the most representative examples from this winery, located in the small town of Mezzolombardo, in the heart of the Rotaliana plain (in the valley of the Dolomites), is Foradori Morei Teroldego. This is a natural red wine that is the result of Elisabetta's passion for purity and balance. The "Morei" (meaning “dark”) is a wine of great density, made 100% from teroldego grapes, sourced from biodynamic vineyards planted on alluvial soils characterised by their minerality, purity, and very distinctive character. In the winery, its fermentation with indigenous yeasts and its ageing in contact with the skins in amphorae provide the wine with exceptional complexity and balance.
Foradori Morei Teroldego is the culmination of Elisabetta Foradori's dedication, an oenologist who has achieved the unthinkable: bringing a native mountain grape to the pinnacle of global recognition. A gem from the Dolomites that invites you to discover all that a wine can offer!
