About Gómez Cruzado Cerro Las Cuevas
While primarily acknowledged as the progenitor of one of the historic wineries in Haro's Barrio de la Estación and for his role in the pioneering Sindicato de Exportadores de Vino de la Rioja, Ángel Gómez de Arteche was far more than a mere winemaker. A businessman, chemist, inventor, and vintner, this Mexican aristocrat with expertise in chemistry and viticulture, was renowned for mastering two disciplines that were seldom combined. On one hand, he had an extensive understanding of the region's soil formation dating back to the Tertiary period, and on the other, he possessed profound chemical knowledge, making him a significant historical figure in the evolution of modern Rioja wines. Years later, the legacy was embraced by brothers Jesús and Agustín Gómez Cruzado (hence the current name; Gómez Cruzado), who preserved the tradition true to the style of the fine wines of Rioja. As the third winery established in the legendary Barrio de la Estación de Haro, they more than honor this heritage. Creations such as Gómez Cruzado Cerro Las Cuevas are a testament to this.
Produced from venerable vineyards that form part of the Selección Terroir range of the winery, Gómez Cruzado Cerro Las Cuevas is a blend of tempranillo, graciano, mazuelo, and garnacha. These 90-year-old vines are planted in poor, calcareous-rich soils, cultivated traditionally, hand-harvested in 15 kg boxes with a careful selection of the finest clusters. In the winery, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with gentle pump-overs, while malolactic fermentation and aging are conducted in foudres and French oak barrels for 12 months.
By valuing a methodology that revolutionized an entire region through the chemical and viticultural insights of the esteemed Ángel Gómez de Arteche, wines like Gómez Cruzado Cerro Las Cuevas invite us to experience firsthand the craftsmanship of one of the pioneering projects in the iconic Barrio de la Estación de Haro. Drink to comprehend!
| 2022 | Gómez Cruzado Cerro Las Cuevas 2022 is a serious and sophisticated red wine that defies the expectations of a hot year. With perfectly integrated alcohol, it offers a balanced and refreshing sensation, while showcasing powerful ripe fruit intertwined with gentle herbal notes and a subtle hint of French oak, a result of its 12-month ageing process. Its austerity and poise make it a complex and profound wine, with a presence that invites leisurely enjoyment. |

| 2021 |

Its flavor is robust and invigorating, with a fruit concentration that lingers pleasantly on the palate. A production of 4,966 bottles. |
