About Gran Rodma

Ecosystems are made up of living things like plants, animals and humans. The Martín Rodríguez family, owner of Finca Rodma, uses this natural cycle to interconnect their three wines made in the “golden mile” of the D.O. Ribera del Duero. Their Finca Rodma Selección is represented by the trout swimming in the Duero River, the Finca Rodma Avizor is the living image of the eagle flying over the Ribera and, finally, Gran Rodma, the winery’s premium wine, has a label showing how the eagle captures the trout in flight, thus culminating the natural cycle of this beautiful ecosystem. A unique space where the vineyards drink from this same environment and where Antonio Nieto, the winery’s winemaker, gives priority to quality over quantity.

Aiming to reflect the terroir in the town of Quintanilla de Arriba (Valladolid), in the heart of the Duero river valley, Gran Rodma comes from 60-year-old vines lying at an altitude of over 900 metres. These are old Tinta Fina vines planted in limestone and clay soils that are cultivated using traditional agriculture. In the winery, the best grapes are extensively selected and carefully destemmed. Fermentation takes place at a low temperature and maceration lasts about 30 days. The wine is then transferred by gravity to French oak barrels where it remains for 20 months. Finally, once bottled, it is stored in the winery for 18 months before being released for sale.

Although relatively young, this winery, which started out in 2019, demonstrates its ability to make the most of the local area with its flagship Gran Rodma wine. A unique natural ecosystem that, treated with respect, provides an exceptional wine.

 

2020

Gran Rodma 2020 emerges as a red wine that captivates with its youthful vibrancy and nuanced spice. On the nose, it unfurls a tapestry of aromas featuring blackberries and ripe plums, interwoven with hints of Chinese ink and a whisper of cinnamon and pepper, all atop a foundation of mineral and balsamic sensations. Upon tasting, its potency is unmistakable, revealing a robust structure and a lingering finish that remains on the palate, mirroring its intensity and distinctive personality.
2019

Gran Rodma 2019 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of ripe fruit, spicy notes and a background with mineral and balsamic touches. On the palate it is complex, powerful and well structured. A medium-bodied wine with silky tannins and noticeable acidity. The finish is lingering and persistent.
