Gresa is a red wine made by the Vinyes d'Olivardots winery in Capmany (Girona). D.O. Empordà.
Vinyes d'Olivardots has its origin in 2002, when the married couple Carme Casacuberta and Antoni Pena decided to launch this project.
Surrounded by a unique landscape consisting of four hectares of vineyards, the Vinyes d'Olivardots facilities were designed to work with the help of gravity together with the most modern techniques, while still maintaining the most traditional methodology. The result of all this are wines with a great deal of personality, expressing all the character of this unique terroir to the utmost.
Gresa is a red wine made with Cariñena, Grenache Tinta, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from their own vineyards. The Cariñena is planted on slate soils, with a maximum production of 1kg per vine. The other varieties were planted on "Gresa" (sandy-loam/granite) soils.
Harvesting is carried out by hand, placing the grapes in 10 kg boxes, and selecting the grapes in the vineyard itself and in the winery, on a selection table. Cold-soak pre-maceration is performed in different containers, stainless steel tanks and French oak fudres, at a controlled temperature of 26° C and with a long maceration. This wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
