About Gutiérrez de la Vega Rojo y Negro

Felipe Gutiérrez de la Vega is renowned for being a pioneer in the production of natural sweet wines using the indigenous Moscatel grape. Therefore, when he presents us his interpretation of the giró, the Garnacha grape from the Levantine region, we can do nothing but pay close attention. The wine, named after the literary work “Le Rouge et le Noir” by the French author Stendhal, reflects the various facets of post-Napoleonic life, and in a similar vein, Gutiérrez reveals a different side of this grape variety when cultivated in his most exceptional vineyards, set in the reddish soils that benefit from the coolness of the Marina Alta, an Alicante subregion that beautifully merges mountains and coastline.

Produced from venerable 50-year-old vines rooted in clayey, iron-rich soils with an abundance of pebbles, situated at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level, Gutiérrez de la Vega Rojo y Negro is a single-varietal wine of the utmost distinction. The vineyard is tended with respect for the environment, eschewing chemical products that could harm the natural balance of the terroir. The grapes are handpicked and promptly transported to the winery. There, the fruit is carefully selected, destemmed, and gently crushed to begin fermentation with indigenous yeasts in open 225-liter barrels. Ultimately, the wine matures for 20 months in 500-liter French and Slavonian oak barrels.

Gutiérrez de la Vega Rojo y Negro invites us to savor the enchantment of the Marina Alta's natural landscape. A singular expression that blends the winemaking expertise of Felipe Gutiérrez de la Vega with the literary inspiration of Stendhal.

2018

Gutiérrez de la Vega Rojo y Negro 2018 unveils a rustic and authentic charm, reminiscent of a stroll through a Mediterranean forest. On the nose, it beguiles with scents of ripe cherry, balsamic hints, and a zest that brings to mind pomegranate and blood orange, all beautifully framed by subtle spices and an earthy carob nuance. On the palate, it makes an impression with its smooth and sweet tannins, delivering a fleshy texture and an extended finish that keeps the essence of fresh fruit alive.
