The Giró, also known as Garnacha Tintorera or Alicante Bouschet, is a typical variety from Valencia (eastern Spain). This variety with character and strength, traditionally used to give body to the simplest wines, grows specifically in the Jalón valley, northwest of Valencia, very close to the Mediterranean Sea.
Felipe and his wife moved there in 1970 to recover the old family vineyards and found the Gutiérrez de la Vega winery. From the family winery, dating back to the 19th century, they began to produce their wines, always under the philosophy of artisan production. Among them, Imagine stands out.
Imagine is a concentrated red wine made from vines over 80 years old located in Jalón-Masserof (a district of Jalón in the Marina Alta region of Alicante). On soils of white calcareous marl with a northeast orientation, the vineyard is planted 700 meters above sea level. The viticulture is looked after in a completely traditional way, guaranteeing both the harvest and the manual work. As it couldn’t be otherwise, the grapes for Imagine are selected by hand before being destemmed and placed in 300-liter barrels for fermentation. Between punching the cap and pumping over, it will remain there for 15 days until it is devatted and very lightly pressed.
Finally, Imagine is transferred to used French oak barrels, where it will age for 13 months. After a light filtration Imagine is bottled on the same property.
