About La Fredat

La Fredat is a barrel-aged red wine made with the Garnacha Tinta variety by Casa Gran del Siurana in the D.O.Q. Priorat (Catalonia).
 
With the aim of making wines in the best areas of Catalonia, the Empordà group Castillo de Peralada have branched out into Priorat in collaboration with renowned winemaker Delfí Sanahuja. Casa Gran del Siurana is located in an old building once inhabited by Carthusian monks and brings together two estates (Casa Gran and La Fredat) in the municipality of Bellmunt del Priorat to make wines with local personality and character. 
 
La Fredat comes from a selection of the best Garnacha grapes that grow in the plot of the same name. These are mountain vines planted in terraces on the type of soils that are typical of this designation of origin; licorella or decomposed slate. When the grapes reach optimum ripeness, they are manually harvested in small boxes.
 
Once they reach the winery, the La Fredat grapes are crushed and macerated for 10-15 days at a controlled temperature of 25ºC. After fermentation, the wine ages for 15 months in French oak barrels. 
 
Reflecting a unique landscape and climate, La Fredat is one of the most acclaimed wines from Grupo Perelada’s main project. A powerful, elegant and mineral Garnacha with a licorella soul.
 
2019 La Fredat 2019 is a red wine with a nose that offers a delicate and deep bouquet where aromas reminiscent of red fruits appear accompanied by floral, balsamic and spicy notes. Delicious elegance on the palate. An expressive, deep, balanced and powerful red wine.
2016 La Fredat 2016 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of red berries, floral notes and spicy and roasted touches. On the palate it is sweet, deep and round. A wine with soft and elegant tannins and a very good structure.
