About La Gutina Demontre

La Gutina Demontre is a natural red wine coupage of the Garnacha and Samsó (Cariñena) varieties produced by the La Gutina winery, in the L'Empordà region, Catalonia.

The grapes used to make the La Gutina Demontre wine come from the La Sureda plot, located in the Alt Empordà area, Girona. This plot consists of two hectares of vineyards with soils composed of granite jabre, lying at a altitude of 90 metres, aged around 20 years old and fertilised with pruning clippings and harvest composts.

The grapes are harvested and selected manually in 13 kilo boxes. When the clusters reach the winery, they are destemmed and crushed, leaving 20% of the grapes whole. The grapes ferment spontaneously with their native yeasts in underground work tanks and without temperature control. The wine is kept in stainless steel tanks and bottled without clarifying, correcting or filtering.

Joan Carles Torres and Barbara Magugliani inherited the estate in 2006 and decided to restart artisan winemaking. Mas Viñas, as La Gutina was known before, was owned by Joan Carles’s great-grandfather and is located in a privileged environment, about 100 metres above sea level with an extraordinary mosaic of vineyards and protected natural areas: olive groves, cork oaks and scrub land alongside temporary ponds protected by the Natural Network 2000.

This natural landscape is where they made wines with a conscience and a personality through a respect for nature, one of which is this La Gutina Demontre, a surprising wine that you are sure to fall in love with.
