About La Hormiga de Antídoto

They work like ants. Unhurried, without shortcuts, and with an almost obsessive precision. Plot by plot, vine by vine, as if every cluster mattered—because here, it truly does. This is how everything begins at Bodegas Antídoto. Not in the winery, but in the vineyard, in that meticulous and silent work that is rarely seen but absolutely defines everything.

In the Soriana Ribera del Duero (Castilla y León), where the climate is harsh and the altitude unforgiving, making wine is no easy task. But that is precisely the starting point of the project: to turn an extreme territory into an asset. From San Esteban de Gormaz, Bodegas Antídoto has built its identity on the clear idea of democratizing excellence, crafting accessible wines that preserve the essence of Soria intact. That is to say, freshness, elegance, and character.

The vineyard is a genuine mosaic. Hundreds of small plots scattered across various villages, between 900 and 1,000 meters of altitude, with soils of sand, clay, and limestone. This diversity is not an obstacle but a tool. It allows for refinement, adjustment, crafting wines where the fruit is clearly expressed, and freshness acts as the connecting thread.

But behind that landscape, there is something more important: people. Viticultural families who have tended these vines for generations and form the foundation of the project. Preserving this heritage—scattered, ancient, and fragile—is as important as the wine itself.

Under the technical direction of David Hernando, the work in the field follows ecological criteria (implemented since 2021) and constant monitoring. Here, there are no generic decisions. Each plot is understood individually, listened to, and worked on accordingly. That attention to detail is what allows the wine to make sense afterward.

And it is precisely in one of those wines where the philosophy reaches its fullest expression. La Hormiga de Antídoto does not seek to impress through volume, but through precision.

It comes from very old vineyards, many of them over 70 years old, located in the northern part of the Soriana Ribera del Duero: San Esteban de Gormaz, Matanza, Quintanilla de los Tres Barrios, Villálvaro. Bush vines, adapted to harsh conditions, that produce little but say a lot. The base is tinto fino (tempranillo), accompanied by small percentages of garnacha, garnacha tintorera, and albillo mayor, adding nuances without diverting focus.

In the winery, the production follows the same logic of respect and precision as in the field. Manual harvest, complete destemming, and a long maceration of about 40 days, allowing for calm and controlled extraction. The ageing, 14 months in French oak Bordeaux barrels (with a portion of new wood), refines the ensemble without masking its origin.

The result is La Hormiga de Antídoto, a wine that flows naturally yet possesses depth. Effortlessly elegant, expressively understated. A wine where freshness is not just a detail but the backbone. Because in the end, that "ant-like" work does not seek to make noise. It seeks something more challenging; for each bottle to clearly and authentically tell where it comes from.
