About LaRural Moscatell Alexandria

Muscat of Alexandria, Muscat of Málaga, Muscat of Valencia, Muscat of large berry, Roman Muscat… a plethora of designations, yet they all refer to a singular grape variety. This is one of the most ancient grapes known, which thrives in the warmth and moisture of the Mediterranean climate. Therefore, it's not uncommon to find it flourishing in regions bordering this sea. Capitalizing on these unparalleled natural conditions, Xavi and Andreu Padró, two brothers who champion indigenous grape varieties and low-intervention farming methods, bring us their most personal rendition of this renowned grape that had already secured its fame during the Roman Era. At their family estate located in Alt Camp (Catalonia), they are committed to this and other local varieties to craft natural wines that embody the essence of the terroir and possess a distinct character.

Under the label LaRural (a term that refers to the countryside and its way of life), they introduce LaRural Moscatell Alexandria, a single-varietal Muscat originating from vines aged five years, planted on their estate with clay-granitic soil rich in quartz, and situated approximately 340 meters above sea level. The vineyard is organically farmed with ecological certification, and the grapes are handpicked at the optimal moment of ripeness. Once at the winery, the selected and destemmed grapes undergo maceration for two days in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is initiated with indigenous yeasts without temperature control, and subsequently, the wine matures on its lees for 11 months before being bottled unfiltered, unfined, and without the addition of sulfites.

Thus, Xavi and Andreu Padró have not only captured the essence of an ancestral grape but have also embodied the spirit of the Mediterranean. LaRural Moscatell Alexandria stands as a living homage to the authenticity and enduring legacy of a grape that has withstood the test of time.
