About LaRural Vinyater

The cava revolution in the Catalan lands undeniably brought about marked changes in production practices, with many cooperatives choosing to phase out varieties that did not align with their commercial ambitions. As a result of these decisions, regrettably, some local grapes have vanished or are at risk of extinction. Fortunately, however, some family estates have remained loyal to these varieties across generations, preserving them to this day. Strains that, thanks to the efforts of small winegrowers committed to the identity of the place, are experiencing a renaissance in all their glory, harking back to their former glories and offering a unique perspective in a constantly evolving wine world. Thus, brothers Xavi and Andreu Padró are reviving the vinyater, a native grape from the Alt Camp area (Tarragona) that the family has cultivated for five generations and which they are now giving the spotlight it deserves within the natural wine community.

Enchanted by sulfite-free wines, the Padró brothers are not only reclaiming ancestral varieties but are also venturing into the creation of their own wines under the name LaRural. It is in this vein that they introduce LaRural Vinyater, a monovarietal orange wine made from vinyater that distinctly reflects the terroir and endows it with a very unique character. Produced from old vines planted in clay-limestone soil at an altitude of 284 meters above sea level, they practice regenerative agriculture without the use of pesticides or herbicides and with organic certification. Once in the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and crushed and then macerate in stainless steel tanks with the skins for 6 days. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts at a constant temperature of 24°C and finally, the wine is left to rest on its lees before bottling, unfiltered, unfined, and without the addition of sulfites.

With its distinctive character, LaRural Vinyater celebrates the richness and diversity of ancestral viticulture, exalting the work of those who, like the Padró brothers, delve into the potential of natural wines in harmony with the land and tradition.


 

2022

LaRural Vinyater 2022 is an orange wine that captivates with its golden yellow hue and an enveloping aromatic complexity. On the nose, it melds fresh and spicy notes of thyme, eucalyptus, oregano, white plums, and yellow tomatoes. Its smooth and elegant structure contrasts with a profound intensity on the palate, where nuances of birch bark and incense predominate. With a lingering finish, this wine reveals the authenticity and depth of the unique flavors that characterize the region, leaving an indelible mark with each sip.
