About Luis Pérez Tintilla Carrascal

Lying on the Atlantic coast and with the Guadalquivir and Guadalete rivers on either side, Cadiz is a land of wines. The typical albarizo soils and the east and west winds create unique wine jewels. The local winemaking tradition has endured over time and thanks to the efforts of small and large winemakers, the province of Cadiz has become one of the most influential and attractive places on the national and international wine scene. One of these makers, University of Cadiz professor and former Domecq Research Director Luis Pérez Rodríguez, aims to recover the historic Jerez vineyards and give them the visibility they deserve.

Following this philosophy, the winery presents a trilogy of wines from three different vineyards where the same variety, Tintilla de Rota, is expressed in different ways. His Luis Pérez Tintilla Carrascal wine comes from a vineyard located in Finca Vistahermosa whose Tintilla vines are planted on a gypsiferous marl soil. Harvesting is carried out at night and by hand in small 14 kg boxes. In the winery, the grapes are selected on the table and, leaving 60% not destemmed, are vinified in stainless steel tanks and open barrels for 30 days. This is a very still process, with very little pumping over, in order to respect the smoothness and elegance of the variety as much as possible. Finally, the wine is aged for about 12 months in used 6-year-old wooden barrels and two more months in tanks before bottling.

So, the unmistakable character provided by the albariza makes Luis Pérez Tintilla Carrascal a very special wine. A red wine from the VT Cádiz that, thanks to the professionalism of the Pérez family, expresses its personality and terroir to the maximum.


 

2020

Luis Pérez Tintilla Carrascal 2020 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of ripe black fruit accompanied by chalky notes and spicy hints. On the palate it is sweet, complex and well structured. A medium-bodied wine with good integrated acidity and a pronounced earthy sensation.
