About M. Chapoutier La Mordorée

Global warming is no longer a subject for debate: it is a reality that vintners confront annually with each harvest. Higher temperatures, droughts, and shifts in ripening cycles necessitate rethinking techniques, schedules, and strategies. However, there are notable figures in the Rhône Valley who have adeptly adapted with foresight and respect for nature, and Michel Chapoutier is among them.

For over 30 years, this esteemed winemaker has worked with passion and creativity, embracing biodynamic viticulture as a tool to fortify vineyards and help them acclimate to climate changes. Through this approach, the vines develop deeper roots, greater resilience to temperature fluctuations, and a natural balance that is evident in every cluster.

A perfect example of this philosophy is M. Chapoutier La Mordorée, a wine derived from syrah vines averaging 60 years of age. The harvest is conducted manually, selecting only those clusters that have reached their optimal ripeness. After complete destemming, fermentation occurs in concrete vats, preserving the purity of the fruit and the terroir's minerality. The wine then rests for 14 to 18 months in 225-litre oak barrels, developing structure, elegance, and complexity.
