About Michelini i Mufatto El Rapolao

Michelini i Mufatto El Rapolao is a wood-aged red wine made by Michelini i Mufatto with the native Mencía variety in the D.O. Bierzo (Castilla y León).
 
Andrea Mufatto and Gerardo Michelini are two Argentine winemakers who crossed the pond having been seduced by the soils of Ozuela, a small village in the Bierzo region with mostly forgotten vineyards. So, with the aim of reflecting the maximum expression of the terroir, Michelini and Mufatto, together with local winemaker Javier González, cultivate native varieties and produce pure, fresh and easy-to-drink wines. 
 
Michelini i Mufatto El Rapolao comes from a 6.7 hectare site that is divided into different recovered plots in Valtuille de Abajo with 60-year-old vines planted in clay and schist-rich soils. The vines are cultivated using organic agriculture and organic treatments, and the harvest is carried out manually when the grapes reach optimum ripeness. 
 
In the winery, the Michelini i Mufatto El Rapolao grape clusters ferment whole and spontaneously in clay amphorae, followed by 3 months of maceration. After pressing, the wine is aged in second and third use oak barrels. 
 
Michelini i Mufatto The Rapolao was made with the aim of expressing the area in the purest way. A wine that is full of fruit, delicacy and freshness.

2018 Michelini i Mufatto El Rapolao 2018 is a supple red wine, suffused with intense aromas of ripe red fruit and delicate hints of spice. On the palate, it is refined, ethereal, and exceedingly graceful. A wine characterized by its luminous acidity and eminently quaffable nature.
