Michelini i Mufatto Encrucijada is a wood-aged red wine made with the Mencía and Palomino varieties by Michelini i Mufatto in the D.O. Bierzo (Castilla y León).
Michelini i Mufatto is the family project of Andrea Mufatto and Gerardo Michelini. Two respected Argentine winemakers who, in search of special winegrowing areas, crossed the pond to settle in the small village of Ozuela, in Ponferrada (Galicia) to start creating pure Bierzo wines.
Michelini i Mufatto Encrucijada comes from the first vineyard that the Michelini i Mufatto family acquired in Bierzo. Less than one hectare of forgotten vines that have been recovered through organic and biodynamic treatments and are planted on red slate soils at an altitude of about 700 metres.
In the winery, Michelini i Mufatto Encrucijada is vinified separately by plot. First the clusters are fermented whole in vats with a maceration of 67 days and then the wine ages for 10 months in large 500-litre wooden barrels.
Michelini i Mufatto Encrucijada stands out on the palate for its purity and elegance, a very Burgundy red wine made from a very exceptional terroir in the Bierzo.
