Tasting notes Mullineux Schist Chenin Blanc 2024

White wine Aged in wood Respectful agriculture. 11 months in French oak barrels 225 L.

Mullineux Schist Chenin Blanc 2024 is a white wine of remarkable precision and character, born from a cool and balanced vintage that has allowed the identity of the Swartland's schist soils to be clearly expressed. On the nose, it reveals delicate aromas of fresh quince, white peach, and a subtle hint of lime, akin to ripe fruit served in a clean and bright atmosphere. On the palate, it exhibits a firm and mineral texture, where tension and elegance progress in harmony, providing depth without losing freshness. The finish is vibrant and citrusy, long and defined, leaving a sensation of clarity that invites calmness and the observation of how the wine continues to evolve over time.

About Mullineux Schist Chenin Blanc

There are wines that require time to fully express themselves, and their allure lies in the tranquillity with which they gradually unfold. Mullineux Schist Chenin Blanc seems to hail from a landscape that is both rugged and radiant, from those places where the earth yields nothing easily, yet what it offers possesses an unforgettable clarity.

In Swartland, to the west of South Africa, Chris and Andrea Mullineux craft their story almost as if they first listen to the land before intervening. Amidst schist soils, ancient vines, and a climate of pronounced contrasts, their work has shaped one of the most esteemed wineries in the region, where the character of the place is not altered but rather accompanied. It all begins there: in understanding that wine is not imposed, it is unveiled.

Mullineux Schist Chenin Blanc originates from vines on rocky slopes, harvested at dawn and gently pressed to naturally ferment in barrels. Its time on lees for months imparts texture and depth, yet what captivates most is the tension between freshness and structure, between light and restrained weight. There is something mineral, almost tactile, reminiscent of sun-warmed stone, with an energy that gradually releases in the glass.

And then comes that kind of moment where silence doesn’t unsettle, but rather brings order. A serene table, an unhurried conversation, or simply the light entering from the side at the end of the day. Not much more is needed to understand that there are wines, like Mullineux Schist Chenin Blanc, that do not seek to accompany the occasion: they transform it without warning.
