About Occhipinti Grotte Alte

Occhipinti Grotte Alte is a red wine that is a coupage of Nero d'Avola and Frappato di Vittoria from the DOCG Cerasuolo di Vittoria produced by Arianna Occhipinti.

Arianna Occhipinti loves her land and her vines. She loves her vineyards and her land and strives to give back what they give her in the most respectful and natural way possible: preserving the biodiversity of her vineyards and their surroundings. Therefore she does not use herbicides or chemical products in the vineyard or in the winery, obtaining simply the grapes that the land provides naturally with its characteristics and histories. She cultivates 10 ha of vineyard and 15 ha of olive trees, and works them all organically.

The vineyards for Occhipinti Grotte Alte are 280 metres above sea level. Their soils are of calcareous sands and are cultivated organically, with no chemicals being used to cultivate them. They are trained in Guyot and Alberello style (little tree in Italian). The vines have an average age of 40 years, and the planting density is approximately 6,000 plants per hectare.

Occhipinti Grotte Alte is fermented with native yeasts and macerated with the skins for some 30 days. Once the wine is fermented it undergoes a refining ageing in 25 hl Slavonian oak barrels for a period of 32 to 48 months. It is bottled unfiltered to preserve the structure of the wine.

Occhipinti Grotte Alte is a harmonious Mediterranean wine that has undergone a long ageing. It is an elegant and fine wine.
2014 Occhipinti Grotte Alte 2014 is a wine with aromas of red and black fruit and spicy and herbaceous notes. There are also whiffs of sea, myrtle, earth, licorice and tobacco. On the palate it is extraordinarily elegant, dynamic, tense and enveloping; all with a precise fineness.
