Stepping out of his comfort zone has always been one of the passions of Oriol Artigas, a young man from Vilassar de Dalt, in the heart of the Alella appellation. His first major venture was the revitalisation of the ancient coastal vineyards of the Mediterranean, where he dedicated himself to crafting supremely transparent wines with a non-interventionist approach. However, Oriol was not content with this experience and, after mastering the art of working with the native varieties of his homeland, he decided to take a risk and try his luck on the other side of the peninsula, in the Canary Islands. Specifically, in La Orotava, an incredibly distinctive region of Tenerife, renowned for its biodiversity and its unique volcanic terroir.
In this extraordinary setting, Oriol Artigas has found a new challenge and produces wines with great personality under the brand Els Perles. A prime example of this is Oriol Artigas Els Perles Jarrita, a wine that perfectly embodies Oriol's relentless quest to explore and convey the authenticity of the land. This wine is composed of a blend of the native varieties listán Negro, listán blanco, and moscatel de Alejandría, sourced from a vineyard aged between 60 to 70 years, cultivated in trellises on volcanic soils that impart a unique minerality to the wine.
The vinification of Oriol Artigas Els Perles Jarrita begins with a two-day maceration in the winepress, where the grapes are trodden by hand. Subsequently, the must is pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks, which promotes a purer and more natural expression of the vineyard, without resorting to artificial interventions. The ageing process takes place over 9 months in stainless steel tanks, which helps preserve the wine's freshness and character, maintaining its original identity to the fullest. Finally, it is bottled unfiltered, unfined, and without added sulphites, allowing it to express itself authentically and true to its origin.
Oriol Artigas Els Perles Jarrita is a wine that, much like its maker, is unafraid to explore new horizons and always seeks to offer something genuine, respecting traditions while daring to innovate.
