Stubborn, capricious, and challenging to tame. No one claimed it was easy, but with perseverance and several centuries of practice, one can achieve magnificent wines like Poggio Landi Rosso di Montalcino.
Little more needs to be said to convey that we are discussing the sangiovese, a red grape variety and the undisputed queen of the town of Montalcino. Originating from the heart of Italy, in Tuscany, this grape is capable of producing two appellations: on one hand, the D.O.C. Brunello di Montalcino (renowned for its extended aging periods); and on the other, the D.O.C. Rosso di Montalcino (much younger, more vibrant, and without the necessity of such prolonged waiting).
Poggio Landi Rosso di Montalcino is crafted at Poggio Landi, one of the leading wineries in the area owned by the magnate Alejandro Bulgheroni. Specifically, Bulgheroni, who for years has been diversifying his oil wealth into wine and olive oil, is a passionate lover of Tuscany and has been at the helm of this winery since 2012, investing over three million euros in its renovation and restoration. Naturally, he did not undertake this endeavor alone and is accompanied on this adventure by Alberto Antonini.
Since his arrival, besides the renovation, Poggio Landi has undergone other transformations, such as converting its 33 hectares of vineyards to organic farming. The vines, aged between 18 and 25 years, are south-southwest facing, planted in clay soils at altitudes ranging from 180 to 500 meters. In the winery, Poggio Landi Rosso di Montalcino begins its spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts and will be aged for approximately 12 months in French oak barrels.
It is often said that "character cannot be given away." It is priced far too high. And it can only be showcased to those who are truly worthy. And you? Do you deserve it? Always remember: Poggio Landi Rosso di Montalcino. Pure personality.
