About Ponte da Boga Capricho de Merenzao

Ponte da Boga Capricho de Merenzao is a red wine made with the Merenzao native variety in the D.O. Ribeira Sacra by Ponte de Boga.

Ponte da Boga is located in the Ourense town of Castro Caldelas. A centuries-old winery located in spectacular surroundings with hills that can only be accessed by practicing what is known as heroic viticulture. The winery has been part of Corporación Hijos de Rivera since 2005 and since then, it has undergone a commercial expansion and now boasts a collection of well-established Ribeira Sacra wines.

Ponte da Boga Capricho de Merenzao comes from plots with old vines planted on shale and slate soils and cultivated using the traditional trellis and stake method to limit the yield. Because of the landscape, they use heroic viticulture methods. No machine is used, rather all the work is carried out manually using harnesses. The harvest is placed in 18 kg boxes.

The ripe Ponte da Boga Capricho de Merenzao grapes are destemmed and pressed when they reach the winery. The must then ferments in stainless steel tanks for 10 days with gentle pump overs and maceration for 8 days. Finally, malolactic fermentation and aging take place in second or third use French oak barrels over 10 months.

Made with the delicate and capricious Merenzao native variety, Ponte da Boga Capricho de Merenzao is a Limited Edition red wine displaying all the uniqueness of Ribeira Sacra.
2016 Ponte da Boga Capricho de Merenzao 2016 is a concentrated red wine with aromas of ripe red and black fruits like raspberry and cherry and floral touches of rose. On the palate it is complex and powerful with a pleasant persistent finish.
