About Protos 9 Meses Ecológico

To be "Protos" (meaning "first" in Greek) is, in itself, an attitude. Under this manifesto, the first winery in the DO. Ribera del Duero takes pride in its origins. Established in 1927 by eleven entrepreneurs from Peñafiel (Valladolid) who decided to market wines under their own name, Protos ranks among the 50 most prestigious brands in the world according to the 2023 list by the renowned magazine Drinks International. A true testament to their hard work and dedication, which is reflected in each of their wines. A broad selection of reds, rosés, and whites from DO. Ribera del Duero, Cigales, and Rueda are the result of a steadfast commitment to innovation and excellence, propelling this century-old winery to become a global wine benchmark.
 
Among its offerings, Protos 9 Meses Ecológico is a red wine made from tempranillo grapes cultivated from organic vines planted on loamy-clay soil, with a somewhat alkaline character, at an altitude of 800-840 m. The yields are small to achieve greater concentration, and the harvest is done manually in 30 kg boxes. Then, at the winery, the finest bunches are selected, and only whole, healthy grapes are fermented and macerated in small stainless steel tanks at a constant temperature of 26°C. Finally, Protos 9 Meses Ecológico is aged for nine months in new and used French oak barrels.
 
As the first winery in the area and a true benchmark in Ribera reds, Protos 9 Meses Ecológico is a clear embodiment of Protos' essence. A fruity, refined, and elegant wine that highlights all the best of DO. Ribera del Duero.
