About Termes Blanco

Few things are more important than work and family. But do these two things go well together? It all depends on the type of relationship and, most importantly, whether you have shared objectives. When it comes to brothers Miguel Ángel and Marcos Eguren, entrepreneurs, artists and above all farmers, it couldn’t be better. One thing they have in common is their passion for wine and their desire to show the world all the characteristics of the terroir of the areas where they work. Their strong relationship has resulted in six wineries, large vineyards spread between Rioja and Toro and some of the most desirable wines in Spain. One of those wineries is Numanthia Termes, which was set up in 1998 with the aim of showcasing a new side to the seemingly rustic Spanish region of the D.O. Toro (Castilla y León). A very satisfying project that became one of the most recognised wineries in the area from the beginning, with the honour of being awarded 100 Parker points for their Termanthia 2004 wine, and with other wonderful wines that have made their way into the best guides. So much so that 10 years later it was bought by the large French group Louis Vitton Moët-Hennessy (LVMH).

Contrary to what you might think of the D.O. Toro, the Eguren brothers not only surprised everyone with red wines full of finesse and precision, but they also braved it with whites. Termes Blanco is a single-variety Malvasía wine from a few plots lying at 750 metres altitude in the municipalities of Valdefinjas, Morales de Toro, Toro and Venialbo (Zamora), all part of the D.O. Toro. The vines are aged between 60 and 100 years old and planted in sandy loam soils. They are organically cultivated and dry-farmed. Once they grapes reach the winery, they undergo a 6-hour skin-contact maceration at low temperature followed by fermentation in barrels and small stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of between 15 and 17ºC. Finally, for 4 months, 30% of the wine is aged in French oak barrels on fine lees with weekly battonnage and the remaining 70% in stainless steel tanks.

So, Termes Blanco was created as a tribute to an ancient Toro tradition that, leaving aside the misunderstood historical reputation of making hard and full-bodied reds, we find ourselves looking at a fresh and complex white wine that breaks all kinds of stereotypes. A brilliant wine that can only be made through the deep understanding and knowledge of the Eguren brothers.

Termes Blanco 2023 stands out for its captivating straw yellow hue with steely highlights, leading to a seductive and fruity finish. On the nose, it unveils a symphony of aromas reminiscent of juicy peach and ripe pear, harmoniously intertwined with notes of fresh grapefruit and orange peel. A light floral hint of orange blossom is perceived, complemented by subtle suggestions of honey. On the palate, the initial freshness is followed by a creamy texture that caresses the taste buds, culminating in a long finish where the duality of grapefruit and orange blossom shines once again. The elegance and complexity of this wine make it particularly recommended for those seeking to indulge in a white wine full of nuances and depth.

Termes Blanco 2019 is a lusciously creamy white wine brimming with aromas of white stone fruit and citrus, complemented by undertones of white blossoms and hints of aromatic herbs and mint. On the palate, it is vivacious, invigorating, and silky. This wine boasts a splendid glyceric structure, superb acidity, and a refreshing finish with nuanced balsamic and mineral accents.
