Tesalia Arx 2023 is an Andalusian red wine with a wild spirit and a sophisticated touch. About Tesalia Arx

In the province of Cadiz, between the Jerez countryside and the Sierra, lies Arcos de la Frontera, a town that catches people’s attention from both inside and outside of Spain. It’s not just its landscapes that are responsible for this, there is also an English family who have had a part to play. We’re talking about the Goldings and their masterpiece; their Tesalia Arx red wine.

It seems that the steep streets and location, considered the gateway to the Los Pueblos Blancos route, was not the only thing that attracted Richard Golding, the man of the family, who decided to leave everything to move to the south of Spain. Until then, Richard worked as a marketing manager for large companies, a job he combined with his love of show jumping. In fact, breeding horses for this was the main reason Richard bought 106 hectares in this area; however, the estate’s clay soil (which isn’t very common in Southern Spain) made him think about planting vineyards.

Eventually, wine ended up steering his path. That happened in 2010 and since then there has always been a special place for Tesalia Arx. The secret? Seeing the vineyard in a different light to the people from the area. As an alternative to bush training systems, with the vine planted directly in the ground, Golding has come up with other alternatives like high training systems. By doing this, the grapes are moved away from the ground (which tends to retain a lot of heat, especially in summer) and the leaves act as a parasol, preventing the bunches from burning. These high temperatures, which happen especially in summer (when the temperature reaches a sweltering 35°C), are also the main reason why the grapes are harvested at night, by hand, avoiding the hottest hours of the day and guaranteeing their good condition.

Tesalia Arx is the result of a true festival of terroirs; a blend of Syrah (grown in plot no. 1), Tintilla de Rota (from plot no. 2), Petit Verdot (plot no. 10) and Cabernet Sauvignon (from plot no. 3). All of them face north, always seeking freshness and the right amount of aeration for the vineyards, which are influenced by the eastern wind. After a cold pre-fermentation maceration, which lasts four days, each of these varieties ferments separately, becoming the perfect canvas on which the winemakers Valle Lozano and Natalia Golding, the two in charge of making the blend, will carry out their work of art.

The architecture of this red wine is underscored by flavorful tannins and a depth that promises to enchant without overwhelming, preserving an elegant finesse.

Tesalia Arx 2019 is a concentrated red wine with a lively colour and violet hues. The nose is complex. On the palate it begins with fruity aromas that combine perfectly at the start with the notes of barrel aging (spices, thyme). The palate is dense, voluminous and very silky with well-polished tannins. Flavoursome and very, very elegant.

Exhibiting a cherry-red hue, this wine boasts a substantial body and density. Tesalia Arx 2018 is a robust, vibrant, and contemporary red wine, exuding intricate aromas where red fruit takes center stage, seamlessly interwoven with notes of pepper, dried thyme, and frankincense. On the palate, it is sumptuously rich, multifaceted, and full-bodied. It progresses with a deliberate, weighty grace, culminating in elegant hints of brined olives.
