About Tetramythos Sideritis Nature

The Gulf of Corinth connects the Ionian Sea to the west with the Aegean Sea to the east. It is an important maritime crossing point in Greece and has historically been used as a key shipping lane. But it also has a significant impact on the region’s viticulture due to the salty and fresh breezes that come up from the gulf and contribute to the quality and uniqueness of the wines produced in the area. Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos, an emblematic local oenologist (based in Egialia, Peloponnese), makes natural wines taking advantage of the surrounding environment, respecting the natural cycle of each process as much as possible and following traditional winemaking methods inspired by ancient Greece. As a result, at his Tetramythos winery, he makes original wines that breathe freshness and authenticity.

One of the most brilliant is Tetramythos Sideritis Nature, a white wine made from the native Sideritis variety whose vineyards lie on the slopes of Mount Helmos, a soil rich in minerals, at about 850 m above sea level and facing the Gulf of Corinth. It is thanks to this location that the vines enjoy constant aeration and maintain a balanced microclimate. The work is organic and the harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness. Then, in the winery, in order to capture the unique Egialia terroir, a natural winemaking process is followed, without any chemical or technological intervention. It first stays in contact with the skins for 5 days, and then undergoes spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts, followed by malolactic fermentation. Finally, the wine is bottled without clarifying or filtering and only adding minimal sulphites.

And then the winery releases Tetramythos Sideritis Nature. A very unique minimal intervention white wine that reflects the land and the rich winemaking history of this Greek region that enjoys the benefits of the salty breeze.


 

2021

Tetramythos Sideritis Nature 2021 is an aromatic white wine with intense citrus aromas, exotic fruits and white flowers over an herbaceous and mineral background. On the palate it is dry, fresh and elegant. A slightly tannic wine with lively acidity and a long, saline finish.
