About The Sadie Family Palladius

The Sadie Family Palladius is an organic, barrel-aged white wine made by The Sadie Family in Swartland, Coastal Region (South Africa) using 11 white varieties and with the Chenin Blanc standing out.

The Sadie Family winery was founded in 1999 by Eben Sadie. An innovative winemaker well-known in South Africa who works to showcase the region’s expression and has even worked with prestigious winemaker Rosa Kruger to revive old Cape vineyards. The result is highly sought-after wines with authentic South African character.

The Sadie Family Palladius comes from 11 varieties from 17 different vineyards where the soils have granite, gravel and sandstone formations. These strains are aged between 6 and 85 years old with a limited yield of 18-22 hl / ha to extract maximum expression of the terroir. When the grape reaches optimum ripeness, it is harvested manually.

When The Sadie Family Palladius grapes reach the winery, they are sorted by hand and pressed in a traditional basket press. The resulting must is moved directly to clay amphorae and concrete eggs where it ferments spontaneously and without additives. Then the wine is all placed in large foudres for 12 months before being bottled. It is bottled without refining or filtering.

2017 The Sadie Family Palladius is a white wine with refined aromas of tropical fruit and stone fruit and saline and mineral touches. On the palate it is medium-bodied, somewhat unctuous and with a notable acidity. The finish is pleasant, generous and lasting.
