About Tomás Postigo 5º Año

Tomás Postigo 5º Año is a red wine made with the Cabernet Sauvignon, Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), malbec and Merlot varieties produced by Tomás Postigo in the D.O. Ribera del Duero.

The Tomás Postigo winery started in 2008, when Tomás Postigo, a chemical researcher and one of the pioneers responsible for consolidating the appellation of origin since 1984, decided to start making his own wines. It is worth noting that it is the first winery to receive the Huella de Carbono, an ecological award that guarantees sustainable, ecological practices that do not harm the environment.

The Tomás Postigo 5º Año vines are planted in mainly limestone, loamy and sandy soils with stones and pebbles, at an altitude of 750 to 1,000 metres above sea level. The harvest is carried out at the optimum point of maturation into small 10 kg boxes and taken straight to the winery.

In the winery, the grapes pass over the manual selection table and alcoholic fermentation takes place with native yeasts. Tomás Postigo 5º Año ages for 12 months in French oak barrels. 30 different wines are made, some of which undergo malolactic fermentation in barrels. It is then refined in the bottle for 40 years.

Tomás Postigo 5º Año is only made using exceptional vintages. Elegant, modern and well integrated, everything they need to be a great Ribera de Duero.

2020

Tomás Postigo 5º Año 2020 boasts an appealing deep and lustrous cherry red hue. On the nose, it reveals optimal ripe red and black fruits, with red plums and cherries standing out, complemented by sweet spice notes and a hint of scrubland. On the palate, it is fresh and well-structured, with an intense fruit load and smooth tannins that provide fullness. Its finish is long and persistent, leaving a pleasant sensation of liquorice and aromatic herbs.                       
2018

Tomás Postigo 5º Año 2018 is unveiled as a red wine that captures the senses from the outset. As one brings the glass to the nose, it unfurls a panoply of scents with ripe fruits such as plums and cherries taking center stage, interwoven with hints of vanilla and black pepper. On the palate, its character is affirmed with a rich and dense texture, exhibiting a harmony between fruit and spices that lingers in a prolonged and gratifying finish.
2017

Tomás Postigo 5º Año 2017 is a quintessential selection. Exhibiting a deep garnet hue, it initially presents an olfactory bouquet replete with nuances of ripe fruits (red mulberries, plums, morello cherries), accompanied by smoky undertones and a melange of spices. On the palate, it is sleek and all-encompassing, displaying a harmonious equilibrium. Delightfully flavorsome, it offers notes of mature fruit, licorice, a blend of spices, and toasted hints.
2014 Tomás Postigo 5º año 2014 is a mature red wine with aromas of ripe black fruit such as plum and blackberry. It has mineral notes and spicy nuances of pepper, vanilla and cedar. There are also subtle touches of black liquorice and chocolate. On the palate it has a sweet and creamy beginning that becomes broad and flavoursome. The retronasal smell brings back the ripe fruit and pleasant roasted touches.
