About Trans Douro Express Cima Corgo

Trans Douro Express Cima Corgo is an organic red wine aged in a cement tank and made with the Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca native varieties in the Portuguese denomination DOC Douro by Mateus Nicolau de Almeida.

Mateus Nicolau de Almeida comes from a family with a strong winemaking legacy in the Douro, and set up his own project to champion the unique personality of the area. Trans Douro Express is a collection of three “climatic” wines that express the different climates of the three sub-regions of the Douro wine region: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo and Douro Superior.

Trans Douro Express Cima Corgo comes from Cima Corgo, the mid-Douro region. These vines are planted in shale soils and enjoy a mild Mediterranean climate. They are cultivated using ecological agriculture and using biodynamic treatments instead of chemical products.

In the winery, the Trans Douro Express Cima Corgo grapes are spontaneously macerated and fermented with native yeasts and at a controlled temperature in concrete tanks. The wine ages for 8 months.

2018 Trans Douro Express Cima Corgo 2018 is a juicy red wine with notes of red fruit, violet flowers and spicy touches. On the palate it is smooth, complete and mineral. A wine with a fine structure, clear tannins and a pleasant finish.
