About Ultreia La Claudina

Ultreia La Claudina is a single-variety Godello white wine produced by the Raúl Pérez Viticultor winery, in the DO Bierzo, in Spain.

The grapes used to make Ultreia La Claudina come from a vineyard that dates back to 1995 in Valtuille de Abajo, in Villafranca del Bierzo, where Raúl Pérez was born. He is one of today’s most outstanding winemakers.

Ultreia La Claudina is a white wine made as if it were a red, in contact with skins and stalks. The must is fermented in a 1,500-litre open foudre without controlling the temperature. When spring arrives, it spontaneously generates a thin layer of yeasts that cover the surface of the liquid. The wine remains under this yeast cap for anywhere between 11 months and 2 years. It is bottled without filtering or clarifying.

Raúl Pérez is one of the people behind Spain’s winemaking revolution. Their focus is on the raw material, which means they try to have as little influence as possible on the grapes so that they can express their full potential personality. Raúl Pérez's ability to understand the territory and the strain means that his wines are not standardised and bear his personal stamp, signature wines with an international reputation.

Ultreia La Claudina is an elegant, complex wine with many nuances. A rare, limited production wine that is absolutely worth trying.

On the palate, it is subtle, with a vibrant and precise acidity that refreshes without overwhelming. An artisanal white wine of limited production, boasting exceptional purity and elegance.
 
2018 Ultreia La Claudina 2018 is a white wine sculpted with exhilarating floral aromas, spiced undertones, hints of butter, and nuances of walnut. On the palate, it is delicate, intricate, and exceedingly graceful. A true rarity boasting a vibrant and enduring acidity.
2016 Ultreia La Claudina 2016 is a white wine that offers hints of butter, honey and toasted baguette, with notes of cherry blossom and a smoky finish. On the palate there are touches of grapefruit accompanied by a persistent and fresh acidity. This wine is complex and elegant with a long mid-palate.
2012 In the mouth, there is a presence of fruit and minerals. A fresh wine with good acidity and well balanced. Long finish.

Bright yellow, clean and intense.

A complex nose. Some initial reduction which leads to white fruit, citrus, white flowers, nuts, balsamic and sweet spices such as vanilla or cinnamon.
