About Valtravieso Vino de Finca

There are names that do more than describe a place; they paint it. Valtravieso is born precisely from such origins; from a landscape traversed by a valley. Its etymology is explicit—"valley that traverses"—and it functions almost as a metaphor for the project itself. A winery that emerges in a limestone plateau, carving its path in an environment as beautiful as it is demanding.

The story begins in 1984 with the construction of the original winery, although it wasn't until 1994 that its first wines reached the market. The significant momentum arrived in 2002, when the family of Pablo González Beteré assumed control and solidified its familial character.

That "valley that traverses" also defines the vineyard, situated at 915 metres above sea level, on a plateau exceeding the average elevation of the Ribera del Duero, where the extreme climate sets the pace. The cold, harsh winters act as a natural barrier against increasingly warm summers, and the clay-limestone soils impart tension, freshness, and structure. From this, its identity emerges: high-altitude wines, precise and full of character.

A fine example is Valtravieso Vino de Finca, sourced from vineyards on the plateau of Piñel de Arriba (Valladolid), at over 900 metres, with vines approximately 25 years old on limestone soils with clay veins. The winemaking process respects the profile of each variety (tinto fino, merlot, and cabernet sauvignon) with distinct macerations and a measured fermentation through pump-overs and 'delestage'. Subsequently, the wine is refined with 13 months in French oak barrels (25% new) and 4 months in foudre.

Thus, the name Valtravieso Vino de Finca is a clear statement of intent. For in Valtravieso, everything—the landscape, the climate, and the wine—appears to move within this same notion of traversing and leaving a mark.
